Our Creative Director Willi sat down with Steph from 91.1 The Bridge on "Connect Youth Spotlight" to talk all things camp. This was a super fun conversation about the whole idea behind camp, why you should come, and what will happen when you get there! You can catch the whole conversation right here.
Registration for LionheART Performing and Creative Arts Camp is open now at thedistrictstudio.ca/lionheart.
On the weekend of February 16th to 18th we teamed up with the incredible team at the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo to fill the entertainment stage at WinterPLAY 2018 with the best acts from both favourite and up and coming local musicians and entertainers from across the region.
The weekend was a rousing success with an amazing variety of entertainment with everything from singer-songwriters, to rappers, to Kangaroo inspired dancing! Here are a few of our favourite acts from the weekend.
Dave Martin is a long time favourite singer songwriter of McMurray. His unique blend of acoustic folk and roots always tells a great story and gets you singing along. He is also involved in incredible work with youth across the city with the Instruments of Change program.
One of our favourite acts from the weekend, Meraki consists of an exciting acoustic guitar duo of young musicians from Westwood High School here in Fort McMurray. Their sound is both sophisticated and entertaining and is sure to inspire. Here is one of their original songs, "Dreamventure."
Shekinah Sarfi was one of our #YouthVoicesWB artists recording her original song "Recovery" for the campaign. She is one of our favourite up and coming artists. Her songwriting voice is thoughtful and mature and the lyrics of each song are thoughtfully woven together and tell real life stories of finding hope in pain. Here is her original song "Poison."
We love seeing the talent come out of the woodwork in our community and are so excited for more of this as we grow the Collective of Wood Buffalo's best artists, entertainers, and performers. See you next time!
We are looking for 8 songs about making your community better in light of the 2016 wildfire disaster by young people age 14-24 living in Wood Buffalo. We are looking for your response to the question, "What would you do to make your community better?" Your response will be pushed out during the election as part of the #YouthVoicesWB social media campaign in partnership with the the Resilience by Design lab at Royal Roads University.
We'll set you up for success with a professional songwriting coach, one instrument track or hip/hop beat and a three hour session to craft the perfect song. Your song will be professionally recorded in our studio with audio and video.
